Some cracks already showing in the publication of the red meat studies. Personally, I reckon there'll be a lot of published criticisms, because there's a lot to criticize https://www.campusreview.com.au/2019/10/harvard-school-chops-up-red-meat-study/ …pic.twitter.com/YtQoPXXFlS

If you want my biggest scientific criticism (so far), I'd say that the meta-analysis of RCTs of meat-eating had some serious issues. In particular, they excluded a smaller trial due to size, but 605 participants is a reasonably number in an RCT! https://annals.org/aim/fullarticle/2752326/effect-lower-versus-higher-red-meat-intake-cardiometabolic-cancer-outcomes …pic.twitter.com/wCUqSfopPx

I also don't understand how they didn't publish ~any~ forest plots for the meta-analyses Sure, there were a lot of MAs, but forest plots are more than nice graphics! They are really important, would've expected them in the supplementaries at least

The cracks in red meat are called marbling and it’s delicious

Right especially when they're recommendations were based on "low to very low-certainty evidence." Not only that but it's irresponsible for them to encourage eating behaviors that have been shown to increase the risk of disease, especially colon cancer.

Hey Gid, Not sure this is a crack in the methods. Most guideline groups will have a mix of folk who do and do it agree with the recommendations. The ratio here was 14 to 3. I think this quote comes from one of the three. But that’s normal. I’m trying to keep to the methods.

Frank Hu offered an interesting rebettal here. https://www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsource/2019/09/30/flawed-guidelines-red-processed-meat/ … Of interest is use of WHI which was an RCT that allocated based on low-fat diet, not red meat consumption, and exclusion of Lyon Heart Study for non-GRADE related reasons.pic.twitter.com/BBEuNDv2XO
