The problem? THERE'S NO ASSOCIATION HERE BETWEEN ONIONS AND GARLIC AND BREAST CANCER Hilarious Love it
There is ~some~ association between eating sofrito, which in Puerto Rico (where this study was done) is apparently a complex sauce including garlic and onions, and breast cancerpic.twitter.com/QPnRBTmReX
But to then draw a link between garlic and onions specifically, rather than, say, bell peppers or coriander, seems to me a huge stretch
The other delightful thing about this study was that the risk reduction was only really apparent in the highest intake group - those who ate sofrito + onions/garlic MORE THAN ONCE PER DAY That's quite a lot of food
So either large quantities of Puerto Rican sofrito is the breast cancer preventive that we've all been waiting for, or something more complex is going on here I know which one I'd pick
Those confidence intervals don't fill me with... Confidence
Dafuq isso sofrito??
