That's not actually what that table shows. Firstly, the confidence interval includes a large benefit from the vaccine as well as a modest detriment. Secondly, the main point of the table is identifying that the vaccine is less effective in people WHO ALREADY HAVE HPV
What that means is that the expected values based on a statistical test go from the observed point estimate down quite a bit but also up to 8.5% In other words, the vaccine could potentially be harmful OR protective based on this table

yeah brainwave, but this is a cancer PREVENTION trial and you know darn well that you don't make decisions based on a CI alone unless you have an agenda lol.
