Just heard another MD telling someone to ‘go on the keto diet’ to avoid inflammation. 1. MDs please stop fucking blindly suggesting keto diets for everyone 2. Keto doesn’t necessarily decrease inflammation 3. FYI: lower carb doesn’t need to mean ‘keto’

Agreed. Also keto is not a harmless intervention. Something that doctors should be more mindful of when randomly throwing around dietary advice.

It’s just so extreme and many people can’t sustain it. Why not recommend something a bit more moderate!

It is extreme. And if adhered to (long-term) strictly, potentially very unhealthy; steatohepatitis, arterial stiffening and possibility of exacerbation of some metastases. This is why it's only used medically for short periods in epileptic kids who don't respond to meds.

Um. Research shows that there are long term health risks due to keto. Not everyone is obsessed with their weight. Health is not a number in the scales.

As a preventive measure I've not seen any very good evidence - as a treatment for diabetes there's evidence that a keto diet can control blood sugars but so far there's no long-term safety data
