I spoke to a researcher behind a pasta study (not this one) and he said usually they come up with their study idea, then ask food makers if they'll provide free food. He said they often say yes, but getting cash is harder

Another interesting point from that convo: since he had worked with a pasta company before, he let them know that a new study was coming out, one that they didn't find. The co then paid a PR firm to promote the study bc it made pasta look good.
