(I should also note that this was arguably the worst headline about the study - many publications did MUCH better, including the Mail and the Telegraph)
Also, the worst part of the headline in my opinion is the "much" worse - the research revealed that increased screen time was associated with about 1/5th of the increase in depression that simply growing older was
Headline could've read: "Growing up causes depression in adolescents, screen time likely to be less of a factor" and it would've fit the study results just as well
All of the above? If you read that crap and take it literally without applying a bit of common sense (and knowing your own youngsters) then hey... you’d probably believe anything.
I suppose that they *only* studied effects of screen time and not other sources of stress such as poor diet, health issues, school, etc. Maybe the most stressed and isolated kids use the screen as an escape?

I'm saying journalist/editor but it feels like they just read the press release rather than the paper and some of the wording in the press release contributed.
