I can't even give you a link to the abstract here, because not only is it unpublished research but for some reason the conference has decided to not publish this particular abstract

The only thing we've got to go on is this press release from the University of Exeter, which features the scientific director of Quorn and is perhaps less useful than an actual study http://www.exeter.ac.uk/news/featurednews/title_723771_en.html …

My advice to journalists - if research is unpublished and you can't at least read the abstract (MINIMUM) never, ever report on itpic.twitter.com/9oeNE9qvKh

There should laws against using bogus scientific claims to sell something. No wonder we have gullible people losing the plot over vaccination.

I always tell students to watch around conference time...lots of “studies” get picked up by media but they haven’t yet been published/peer reviewed.

Sorry hang on I'm still stuck on the headline/dek... It's better at muscle building because it contains more than just protein? The whole point of whey protein powder is it's just the protein. Protein plus other stuff already has a name, it is FOOD
-
This is true, and it's also even worse because the press release from the University of Exeter claims that the supplement was purely mycoprotein so I don't know who to believe http://www.exeter.ac.uk/news/featurednews/title_723771_en.html …pic.twitter.com/c3ukQAxGXh

I believe this is Dr Ben Wall from Exeter Uni, who is a respected researcher (from my MSc studies) but why the study isn’t available to read - no idea
-
There is actually a very good summary of the study on the newspaper’s UK site, by Dr Wall - maybe you can’t view it in Aus
