I heard today that not breastfeeding can cause distortions in the baby's mouth and jaw. This sounds like nonsense to me but the amount I know about breastfeeding can adequately be summed up by the phrase "bugger all" Twitter, what's your verdict?

You're right, Emma. It's hard to tease out all of the variables and confounding factors, but on the whole, it's generally accepted that there is a relationship between BF and malocclusions. How significant that relationship is is uncertain.

I have to say though in that SR (only one I could quickly find) the extent to which the original studies dealt with confounding really wasn't discussed **at all**. And then we have the funnel plots...
