I heard today that not breastfeeding can cause distortions in the baby's mouth and jaw. This sounds like nonsense to me but the amount I know about breastfeeding can adequately be summed up by the phrase "bugger all" Twitter, what's your verdict?

I remain open and don't hold a strong opinion one way or the other. There is certainly plausibility to explain it, but the effect is uncertain enough to where I don't make any particular recommendations based upon the evidence at hand.

Yes, most likely true. If so, it's probably due more to mechanical factors (position of tongue, sucking reflex, orofacial muscle posture, etc) than the "health benefits" of maternal milk vs formula etc. That's my opinion, at least.

What about infants who spend more time pacifying than others? They may not have an extended jaw during pacifying but it is fairly continuous throughout the day.
