I'm way too tired today to do a yell, so why don't all you wonderful people tell me why this study probably doesn't show that "Pregnant women who don't get enough sunshine 'are more likely to have children with dyslexia, autism or ADHD'"https://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-7191675/Children-conceived-winter-months-likely-autism.html …

Some hints - How was sunshine categorized? What confounders were considered in this relationship? What did the study define as a 'learning disability'?

My makeup shade is “linen” (aka I catch on fire if I’m in the sun for more than 10 minutes). Apparently, my pale spawn are doomed. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Is the seasonal variation going to be one of those "successful footballers are more likely to have been born in January than December" kind of things..?

DING DING WE HAVE A WINNER. Sharp drop in prevalence for June conception = sharp drop for September birth, coincident with the academic year change over. Youngest kids in each year group more likely to be diagnosed.

My favourite is “men who like women with big bottoms” - I’ve got two kids with autism and my husband only chatted me up at work because my skirt was two sizes too small. By the time HR had got me a uniform that fit it was too late. (See my Tedx photo for proof)

Interested to know what your alternative hypothesis is to explain the significant variance given that these results are consistent with animal/ other epi & observational data, have plausible mechanisms and a large sample size...?
