Note: this is an estimate, the exact figure of smoking-related fatalities in Ukraine, Belarus, and parts of Russia is hard to figure out
If we're going to include non-fatal issues, smoking causes COPD in most smokers, often requiring lifelong medication. It also causes literally hundreds of other issues

No, COPD occurs in only 15% of smokers, far greater in lung cancer (which one may expect) and that appears to have a genetic disposition factor. 20% of COPD is in never smokers.
-
Yes apologies had the wrong figure. Most smokers have abnormal lung function, with 20-25% COPD. Regardless, there is significant morbidity associated with smoking as well

And yes, there are many other issues. But, it is difficult to isolate smoking given the fact most elderly adults have smoked at some time in their life and often non filtered high tar cigarettes. Yet are still living longer.

Every statement that you have just made is factually incorrect

Whereas thyroid childhood cancer has dramatically increased from Chernobyl. In the young age group. A person who smoked between age 12 and 25 - well problems are not going to hit them until 70 if they quit.

So a little different no? Vast majority of smokers will not get COPD or lung cancer. My grandparents for eg. the smokers lived longer never a related health problem both smoked until late 80s mid 90s. Immediate exposure radiation far greater immediate risk
-
Again that is incorrect. 30 years of development is not immediate
