Well, the official figure for Chernobyl deaths as of 2016 is about 300, including from thyroid cancer and leukemia. If we instead take a much higher estimate the figure could be as high as 15,000, although that's very disputable

The affected areas cover much of Ukraine, Belarus, and parts of Russia, with a population somewhere in the region of 60 million people. Death rate per 100,000 from smoking varies, but is around 50-100 per year. 50x600=30,000, so very roughly double the high estimate for Chernobyl
