If only one risk is going to be reported, I think that absolute risk difference is much more useful for actual people who are trying to interpret the figures

That being said, relative risk is extremely important for researchers like me who need to know the ratio of risks across different populations

I’m a HUGE proponent of absolute risk & frequently teach that in talks I give. That said, I‘ll add it’s sometimes remarkably difficult to find/give absolute risks & sometimes absolute risks can also be misleading if they require adjustment that can only be done w RR, HR, OR, etc

Oh absolutely true. I find it incredibly frustrating when studies don't give the actual figures and/or crude risks

I like to complain about journalists, but they are often just looking at a press release they might/might not understand. Too often it’s the study authors deliberately amping the relative risk to get coverage.
