Dr Darren Saunders added,
One thing I strongly suspect is that people who claim to be suffering the disease will be volunteering for these studies, with the aim of "educating" or "informing" (that's how they'd frame it) the scientists involved.
One very serious failure on the part of the NHMRC here is to consider how to build a study immune from interference in a hotly contested and entirely political / ideological (rather than physiological / medical) issue.
If these studies were immune to political interference they wouldn’t exist in the first place.
Definitely. Epidemiological evidence does not support any impacts of wind farm infrasound, there's no plausible biological reason, it's scientific nonsense that's only being researched because some people don't like wind farms
This particular study: - Targets a wind farm with already-aggrieved residents - Uses self-reported survey data - Has a 'community reference group' (the wind turbine syndrome activists stack and disrupt these as standard operation) https://www.flinders.edu.au/wind-farm-noise-study/survey.cfm …pic.twitter.com/tG3ypS3OGx
If I wanted to design something that could be easily disrupted by the aims of anti-wind farm groups, and that would deliver a non-objective result that condemns wind farms, I think that is exactly what I'd do.
If that's what they're doing, then it sounds like totally junk science. Can't see how youd get any results worth mentioning with that study design
