I'm also always wary of articles that talk about rates of maternal death in the US but don't mention the changes in coding for death that have driven a lot of the increase over the last ~10 years

If it’s primarily improvements in ascertainment driving the stats then the rates have *always* been this high and we still have a MASSIVE problem. And those improvements don’t make the injustice in the rates for Black and Native women any less of a disgrace.
