1943, first used as official diagnostic term. Quite conceivable that it would have been described in the 1930s. Have you actually read this book, btw? For proper refuting, naturally....

The first descriptions of "autism" were around the early 1900s, but back then the diagnosis was synonymous with what was termed "infantile schizophrenia". The first codification was in the 80s as a specific diagnosis rather than a vague multi-use term
