It's called herd immunity - basically:
1. not everyone can get vaccinated
2. vaccines work about 98-99% of the time

It’s not just kids- thanks to treatment for Crohn’s disease, I can no longer receive live vaccines, so I rely on herd immunity as well. Especially as I work in the emergency department!

@Jimcorrsays also some vaccines also have less efficacy e.g seasonal influenza and efficacy also depends on an individuals age and immune status. Increasing organ transplants, improved cancer treatments mean more people are immunocompromised. - Show replies
