For a journal article, a minimal reference should include: author, journal, year, volume, page numbers. You can usually find the source with just that information. However, the title is often desirable for another reason: helps the reader quickly appraise relevance.

For books, I don’t understand why we still include city alongside the publisher. Does anyone know why this is?
