Interesting piece by @andy_park on codeine use post prescription-only legislation
Take-home seems to be that there's been no increase in prescribed codeine so the legislation was likely well-supported https://mobile.abc.net.au/news/2019-03-11/codeine-study-finds-no-increase-in-prescriptions/10884252?pfmredir=sm …

Gotta say, I do absolutely love this. Study based on prescribing data - a nationwide set capturing all prescriptions - says no increase but clinicians are certain there's been one Always interesting to see personal anecdotes clash with hard datapic.twitter.com/DmNujy9ttZ

I mean, I haven't read the study, but if they did what they described then the numbers can't be increasing overall

Replying to @joshcnicholas
I don't think it applies? Like, they might be choosing other sources for drugs, but the pharmacists are specifically claiming that there are more prescriptions for codeine which is not borne out in the national dataset

I guess it depends on how good a proxy prescription figures is for consumption, but based on my understanding of prescribing I think that's pretty unlikely
