I thought the DOHS already had done a basic analysis? Sounds like the crude rate was 10x lower in the debt group

The Department's own analysis is not likely to be one that can be taken at face value: they would probably have included Aged Pensioners in this instance to inflate the overall 'customer' death rate…

Oh it's almost certainly misleading but as you say that's the point. Using flawed stats to make your argument just makes you wrong, even if your central point is still important

Well, so don't be seen to rely on it in a public forum, & maybe call on the Minister to release better data to professionals such as yourself? DHS totally won't do it, of course, but calling them out is still just as important as questioning work of those trying to make change.

I can see there being difficulty releasing data, death is very sensitive and can be identified if publicly released which is a big issue. Better solution would be a independent analysis from a trusted provider such as a uni prof with appropriate data governance arrangements

This is a Government that has claimed to be able to safely anonymise an entire Census worth of population data that we're talking about, isn't it?

They've done bad things sure but that doesn't make releasing extremely sensitive potentially identifiable information a good idea!

Sorry, it has been a very very long 5 days. That was poorly executed sarcasm. Data from this Department can't be trusted, but their aggressive resistance to any outside examination or questioning is troubling, to say the least.

Haha my bad I tend to be very literal. Yes definitely disappointingly poor transparency, although I do trust the data they've released - I don't think anyone's lying - it's just that even they are using misleading figures

Sorry to chime-in but it would seem to me that this particular QoN response was a contemptuous attempt to mislead the Senate. Who really believes that DHS hasn't received and investigated complaints from grieving loved ones of
#RoboDebt victims who have committed suicide!?pic.twitter.com/S8t9Uy5WyU

Me. You'd have to link deaths register with DOHS data to get that which is incredibly sensitive and very unlikely unless specifically requested. Maybe one or two incidents where an inquest has been held but not for the whole population
