Some issues: 1. Autism is not caused by diet 2. Autism cannot be 'cured' 3. Seeing autism as a disease to be cured is problematic 4. PROCESSED FOODS DO NOT CAUSE AUTISM 5. This is wildly irresponsiblepic.twitter.com/rRvTUorbJA

Your bluster seems very authoritative, but I find it hard to believe that the same foods that made my existence unbearable will have no effect on someone else purely because they have been given an autism diagnosis. But God forbid sick people be allowed to eat real food.

Such an odd straw man there. I'm not saying that there is no chance that eating differently might help, I'm saying the claim that cutting out processed foods can 'cure' autism is without basis and that restrictive diets have been shown to be problematic for autistic people

Um, that's why quotation marks were used on the word 'cure, what quotes signify. You should probably put them on 'health' if you think avoiding industrially processed food is 'restrictive'.

The implication is absolutely that cutting processed foods will reverse autism symptoms and provide, at least, a temporary curative effect. That is entirely unsupportable evidentially and there's fairly good evidence of harms

Well there's probably a little more to it than that. You should talk to the parents involved to find out what they are doing, and how they mitigate the harms of processed food avoidance.

That would seem to be a reasonably path, rather than, say, attributing a 'cure' (implying that a cure for autism is something desirable) to cutting out glutamate in processed foods in a tweet 😉

It's not just processed foods - sensitivity to free glutamate is a thing in general population and includes some fermented foods, though probably driven initially by flavour enhancers. This would indeed be challenging to manage because umami is so important.

There is a truly vast gulf between discussing sensitivity to glutamate and publicly claiming that cutting out processed foods high in glutamate can 'cure' autism
