Don’t bother reading about those Israeli guys spruiking their share price with BS claims. Instead, read this brutally honest reflection on just how hard it is to develop new cancer drugs, and the cruelty of hype.https://www.afr.com/business/health/i-tried-to-develop-a-new-drug-for-a-deadly-cancer-20190115-h1a2mp …

I could point to 20 research projects far more likely to lead to genuine improvements in cancer outcomes than this but you won’t hear about them. Why? Because the people doing it are responsible and careful, and know the damage this kind of story can do.

But sure, let’s reward them with lots of free PR for their biotech and a nice juicy kick to the share price. Meanwhile, a bunch of people will spend the next few days hosing down the hype and expectation with people desperate for a cure. /end rant.

I mean, FFS. Is there a single journo/editor out there with a shred of scepticism about such a big claim? “if “cure cancer within a year” doesn’t have your bullshit detector going off, what does?pic.twitter.com/noX6P7qCrC

I ended up writing a blog about it because man those claims are nuts. The one good source I've found is the Daily Mail, ironicallyhttps://medium.com/@gidmk/there-is-no-cure-for-cancer-712da12dd41a …

The Mail piece is here, and is pretty skeptical https://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-6644577/A-cure-cancer-YEAR-Israeli-scientists-say-critics-warn-findings-thin.html …

I know but the piece is actually very good, informative, and pretty much the only skeptical reporting so kudos to the Mail and @miadegraaf
