IVF is a massive minefield. I still can't believe that clinics don't have to publish their success results, it's such an opaque field!

IVF clinics publishing results often discouraged as historically is one of most common areas of complaints for misleading and deceptive advertising. Successful "pregnancies" don't translate to successful births and can provide a picture that is far more successful than reality

Fascinating. But then the reverse is also an issue - no successful birth results means that patients don't have any basis for comparison, but expense varies widely regardless

I agree, but until enforceable reporting standards are developed experience has generally been one of selective reporting for promotion rather than information. Civil conscription clause in Constitution makes it almost impossible to develop this kind of thing in most health areas

In short, it means Commonwealth can't compel medical doctors to practise or work in certain ways. It is reason a NHS-type system not possible in Oz (& why Medicare relies on FFS for private docs). Workarounds of this also responsible for many MBS, e-health inefficiencies we see

Though TBH it's an issue that is generally unknown until people hit a block (and even then, lack of clarity on how Clause impacts affects implementation just as much as the Clause itself does). There are other options (e.g. via States or associations) that aren't bound by Clause

It's like the whole prison health thing - no one realizes that prisoners can't access Medicare because of an obscure clause until they actually dig into it. Most people don't even realize that's the reason that prison health is a state-funded service!

Yep. In fact, we technically can't offer commonwealth-funded services at hospitals without specific exemptions, but get around it with complex workarounds. It's all down to a single sentence in a clause that makes no sense in a modern health system
