It's hard to compare results across trials, even if they are identical (which these two trials were emphatically not), so I'd be very cautious saying that one approach is "better" without a direct comparison
I mostly just follow the dietary guidelines and limit portion sizes. Lots of fruit and fresh veg, plenty of wholegrains etc

Presume you weren't T2 diabetic though? Blood sugars would have been through the roof eating that way..

Nope. Had an abnormal GTT but it was not within T2DM range at the time. Now I'm textbook perfect after 30kg weightloss
