That's actually what makes the keto/low-carb opposition to DiRECT so weird. Yes most of them almost certainly were in ketosis due to the low calorie intake, which may have helped their weight loss
To be fair, it does depend on what precisely the Virta authors meant as their statements are very vague, but yes I'd say clinically that those are markers of the same disorders that Virta excluded for, aside from one or two elements

The weight loss is the only big one, which actually is something that makes Virta far WEAKER, not stronger, because one potential explanation for their results is that the comparison group had already lost weight prior to the study (not that this is true, but it is possible)
