Always odd that people assume I've never tried alt med therapies. I've been to pretty much everything from osteopaths to psychic healers, reiki therapists to Alexander techniquers, and even a natural healer who tried to cure a wart on my foot with a piece of steakhttps://twitter.com/FaimanBenj/status/1080027716626366466 …

The reason a lot of these techniques may not work for you is because of your mindset. Your body and it’s mechanisms are controlled by the brain and if you’re closed minded about a practice your body won’t respond to it. Healing requires a desire to be healed

As a serious question: what would you say to someone who had unsuccessfully, but wholeheartedly, tried dozens of therapies for a chronic disease, after years of suffering?

Obviously it’s a shame and difficult but I guess if those dozens don’t work then you wouldn’t go back to the traditional treatments that haven’t worked. Personally I would look more experimental if it was really increasing daily disability

So you wouldn't tell them that they need more of a desire to be healed?

If they’d tried countless of different therapies with an open mind then no. But treatment is multifaceted and has many different factors which is why it’s hard to prove efficacy for any treatment going back to the original statement of yours

Why not? What constitutes an "open mind"? By your statement, they might just not be believing hard enough for the magic to work

The treatment may not be appropriate for the condition. You’re asking silly questions mate

No, I'm trying to understand why you would blame a patient for not getting better. Was I not enough of a believer at the age of 10 when a homeopath failed miserably to cure my cough?

What about when I tried - earnestly and in good faith, at the age of 18 - osteopathy for RSI? Did my mindset get in the way? I'm truly interested to know
