In particular, there seems to be no good evidence that artificial sweeteners cause increased hunger, food consumption, or sweet cravings This flies in the face of a very common trope, and yet it was not reported at all!pic.twitter.com/agUPrrTSTB

Ultimately, there seems to be decent evidence that artificial sweeteners can help people lose weight IF: 1. They replace sugar 2. People are overweight to begin with

So if you are, like 20yo me, an overweight person who drinks 1+ litres of sugary beverages a day, artificial sweeteners are probably great! Conversely, if you're like 29yo me, a less overweight person who drinks virtually no sugar, they probably aren't that helpful

Part of the review was rating the studies with respect to industry bias and imo a big part of the reason that there isn't more evidence either way is because no industry has much incentive to fund it

what am I missing here? The criteria for selecting studies states amongst other things, "generally healthy adults or children..., and the intervention duration had to be at least seven days" This bar seems too low to even crawl under
-
My bigger point is that if that is the standard we use to say things are alright, then the folks like us who want to dig into these food/diet pitches need to be even more wary
