You can be "fat but fit". As I can personally attest, it's incredibly hard, but it's possible You'll still be worse off than someone who is fit and thin, but you'll be at a massively reduced risk compared to someone who is not fit and thin

I do think that something that often gets lost in this conversation is that being "fat but fit", while POSSIBLE, can be extremely hard For me, it took losing 20kg before I could run. It was just too hard before that
