Chicken pox isn’t vaccinated against routinely in the uk (or it wasn’t when I left!- it may have changed). When I was young Drs advocated for “chicken pox parties” to ensure we all had it as children. This practice has been discredited now as chicken pox can have consequences >

It still isn't routinely vaccinated against as far as I know. From a public health perspective I can see the rationale, but personally I think it's short-sighted

Varicella vaccine routine in Australia since 2005. Data suggests 84% reduction in varicella hospitalisations in 18m-5y, but also a 67% reduction in <18m (herd protection effect).. Has also reduced VZV mortality. https://www.phaa.net.au/documents/item/2281 …

The full report is now published online in Communicable Diseases Intelligence - we did not find any evidence that the intro of varicella vaccine in AUS led to increase in zoster hospitalisations. Any increases are likely to be due to a range of other factors.
