A good example, I think, is climate change The fact is that human activity is increasing the global climate. We cannot agree to disagree about that

What we CAN debate is what to DO about it Do we take action? Where do we spend our money? Do the rights of coal miners outweigh the collective impact of climate change?

Now, I have some fairly strong personal opinions on these things. The cost-benefit of, for example, moving to renewables is just too good for us to go any other way imo

BUT these are subjects we can discuss. You could argue that coal is essential to our economy and getting rid of it will literally kill people

What you can't do - what is simply wrong - is to deny the simple fact that humans are causing the climate to change If you speak such absurdities, then we will have a problem

My fave is 'I don't agree with all this transgender stuff'. Like ?? You might as well say 'I don't agree with the Sun coming up'

Sometimes it’s not ok to agree to disagree about values
-
Very true. I mean more generally, that there are certain places where it is possible to agree to disagree, but it's worth remembering that some values are simply abhorrent

Sure. But knowing which facts are facts, how to interpret the facts, and which facts are important is difficult. Hence, history is a huge field of study and statistics exists as a discipline. Science is all facts, there's still a huge amount of disagreement.
-
The problem is so many people think the disagreements are over bollocks like "whether or not vaccines cause autism", instead of things like "which particular intervention is going to improve vaccine uptake in traveller communities" or whathave you.
