Praise be to pseudoephedrine, King of the over-the-counter pharmaceuticals, and long may he reign despite stupid people continuing to promote phenylephrine - which is basically placebo for people who think that lauranorder is a good reason to vote for authoritarian morons.

I was so surprised when I looked into phenylephrine and found out that it's been pretty conclusively demonstrated to be ineffective. It's in pretty much every cold medicine!

Wouldn't it be amazing if someone had actually taken the time to check whether replacing pseudoephedrine in common cold medication was effective as well?https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2000711/ …

I actually tried to start a fight over this and the final conclusion of the regulator is it's safe.

Oh I don't think it's unsafe. The safety profile is excellent. There's just not much evidence phenylephrine reduces nasal congestion, which is the only reason it's in cold medicines in the first place

Yeah exactly, they refused to engage me on the efficacy and relied on the fact there was no harm. You might as well eat sugar pills.
