I hate it when people say "BMI is inaccurate, it's useless!" No BMI is IMPERFECT, not inaccurate It does not provide a perfect estimate of risk for every person BUT it is a good estimation for most people

For some elite athletes, BMI may overestimate risk in terms of obesity-related complications For some people classified as "healthy" by BMI - particularly certain ethnic groups - they may still be at increased risk

But for the vast majority of people, BMI gives you a decent estimate of risks such as OSA and cardiovascular events

BMI is also a very quick and easy measurement that costs nothing to take, compared with many of the other measurements which are labor and cost intensive

Less than ideal? Sure. One of the quickest, easiest measurements to take to get a good idea of various obesity-related risks? Also sure

A few people have asked that. Short answer: dunno. Long answer: dunno Both seem reasonably good at predicting risk, so either one I guess?

Are there waist circumference adjusted BMIs, does that exist and if so is it also dunno?

I think most of the calculated scores include both waist circ and BMI but I don't know if there's one that looks specifically at those two. Most of them include age and comorbidities, and generally that improves the harm estimate significantly
