THIS IS POISONOUS NONSENSE The oral contraceptive pill is - generally - safe and effective There are side-effects, as with any medication, which is why you should talk to your doctor about taking itpic.twitter.com/y9RoUZlFdf

There is also evidence that women who take contraceptive medication are at a higher risk of cervical cancer, however this is not necessarily causal given the relationship with HPV
On the other hand, oral contraceptives generally protect quite a bit (~30%) against some types of cancer - ovarian, endometrial, and colorectal
Breast cancer is very common, the other cancers a bit more rare, so the 30% reductions in those cancers and the slight increased risk of breast cancer roughly equal out
That being said, even if the risk of cancer didn't balance, being pregnant is actually a far bigger risk for most people than a small relative risk increase in the risk of cancer
All of this is pretty complex, and is why I'll repeat that you should TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR ABOUT THIS STUFF Nonsense memes online are a terrible way to make health decisions
& typically younger people take oral contraceptives - younger people have reduced risk to begin w/ so that 7% is of an already relatively small #. When you reach a) an older age or b) many consecutive years of oral contraceptive use, drs start to make you aware of changes in risk
Makes sense! I think they also take it into consideration if you've got a very high risk (genetic etc) to begin with?
