      Health Nerd Retweeted Tim Noakes

What a hilariously absurd suggestion Obesity is complex because the causes are societal and SOCIETY is complex If obesity was simple, we would've solved it decades agohttps://twitter.com/ProfTimNoakes/status/1054672936454574080 …

      Health Nerd added,

      Tim Noakes @ProfTimNoakes
Those who claim obesity is a complex disease always have a reason for saying so. And it's usually a conflict of interest. If processed foods are driving the obesity epidemic, then that fact must be buried. So far, food industry has succeeded in hiding that fact from the majority. https://twitter.com/anthonyrecovery/status/1054669203071008769 …

As an endocrinologist friend of mine likes to say: "If we put everyone on desert islands with no food, no one would be obese. Obesity is all about environment"

Exactly. Everyone would get thin. However some would get thin a lot more rapidly than others (even allowing for different starting weights). Have some complexity....

So nothing to do with personal choice. One chooses to eat, we all have same environment but we are not all obese. Relinquishing personal responsibility won’t help dealing with the problem will it?

However of course environment key. Look at estates where high levels of deprivation. Full of take aways and unhealthy supermarkets like Iceland. If children live in such environment they develop eating habits to fit in them that remain for life

Well, if you put me (BMI 42) on a desert island with no food I'd probably still be fat when I died of dehydration.

Does Noakes even understand that sales of Banting compatible foods benefit the food industry as well? The largest, richest part of the food industry? I imagine he does.

The island limits the range of your personal choice. It's still about personal choice
