Wouldn't it be great if we had examples from overseas - say, Australia - where a single-payer government health system had done none of these things and mostly just driven down costs and improved equity? That'd be lovelyhttps://twitter.com/SpeakerRyan/status/1054355832152956930 …

Single-payer, government-run health care would essentially destroy and obliterate → the private health insurance system, → the employer-sponsored health insurance system, → oh and by the way—Medicare as we know it. pic.twitter.com/83fExtgIBF

Wouldn't it be better if it did do those things because they wouldn't be needed, rather than being propped up with taxpayers' mineybas they are here?

So here, under the federal EMTALA law- which has been broadly interpreted- anybody at any time and of whatever citizenship has to be evaluated fully and treated appropriately if they present in person or by ambulance to the ER. 12 years ago I took care of a young man from Mexico>

Who had just been released from another hospital after sustaining a displaced lumbar fracture with paraparesis. He was septic. We flew him by helicopter 200 miles back to the surgeon who had operated on his spine. Sad. Spoke no English. No money. No family. >

When you think about the game theory of this...: single payer gov. Healthcare would maximize cost effective treatment of common ailments while leaving rare and devastating ailments unaddressed. Feels utilitarian and hopeless to me...

Doesn't seem to have happened in Australia. I know two young people with rare & devastating conditions getting excellent care without risk of becoming "uninsurable"
