Oh I'm not just talking about Teicholz here. There are lots of people who lump various problematic observational trials in with all observational research, which just shows how little people understand about epidemiology!

Climate change isn't real because it relies on observational research, so I'm just going to go ahead and set fire to some deisel in my backyard.

100% I think whenever people say this stuff, it's just a display of absolute ignorance and how the real world works. I also am fond of

Agree, but the problem is when we want observational studies to give us the wrong answers. For example, deduct from a cohort study the dose of a treatment.

You can do a hundred year study with a million patients, but if it doesn't support low carb they'll go "pfft only a hundred years? Only a million patients? Weak."

Then definitely don’t listen to this episode of th Joe Rogan podcast. https://itunes.apple.com/au/podcast/the-joe-rogan-experience/id360084272?mt=2&i=1000420611928 … About an hour is spent arguing about the validity of epidemiology. Painful. Very painful. Actually. The whole episode is painful.
