#medtwitter, please help resolve a heated debate: Hypertension - disease or risk factor?
To be clear I'm not taking about 'malignant/crisis etc'. I'm talking about the bulk of hypertensive cases - systolics between 140-160. No retinopathy/nephropathy/IHD etc etc.

True in that if we think of it as a disease, it's automatically a risk factor. But if an 80 yr old dude, HT@ 150 systolic, asymptomatic, heart/kidney/vasculature intact - does he have disease, or merely a risk factor? How bout his 80yo friend friend in same health with bp 139?
