6 weeks? Really difficult to interpret, as average red cell lifespan is 3m. I'd be thinking this was due to a bleed or a red cell problem, if it's a real lab result.
Hey smart people, a question. Is it physiologically possible for someone's HbA1c to go from 11% down to 4.6% in 6 weeks? Trying to figure out if a value is above board

Of course I could be wrong.

anything happening to Hgb concentrations? that's crazy implausibly fast for a cell type with 120 day lifespan.

Don't have Hb results in this dataset unfortunately, but I've been assured that it was a replicated test and caused by the patient starting insulin!

It is possible, depending on reasoning for elevation/lowering. Couldn't tell you exact weighting of red blood cells. anemia can also cause a false low because of immature RBCs. Although, with intense diet/exercise/medication, it is possible to drop that quickly.

I would concur that it is highly unlikely. If true, that person would have felt awful to have their BG drop that drastically in such a short period of time and would have had many episodes of low BG as

Post-blood transfusion.

I met a pt who went from a1c of 6 on insulin & sensible diet to 12 off of it in 3 months, back to 5.something in 10ish weeks w insulin/diet. Type 2.

That's huge! Must be very rare though
