I think the first statement also needs to be put into perspective. When people hear "bad for you", they're probably thinking that because it's "bad for you", drinking even a little will result in meaningful, detrimental outcomes and therefore abstinence is best.

It's more a matter of the question of whether moderate drinking is beneficial, which has been argued by a number of people for some time, and is almost certainly untrue and largely due to residual confounding
