Ah, it's fine to insult me if I criticize your favourite study on twitter? I guess it's time for a block then. Cheerio

Gid, I flicked through that thread Macro posted - I’m quite stunned with your arguments against Virta. Virta are getting results for so many people - no other program has had such success. If it’s bc “people pay money” - they’re paying for a service.

? There are several other programs with similar results, for example DiRECT, who also ran RCTs (as opposed to virtas problematic cohort) without very large CoIs

Virta is real life, real time. That’s what’s so great about it. Are there other program measuring and reporting results, open to the public?

So is DIReCT? And most of the others? They just minimized bias in their study design Bit weird to see you, of all people, defending an industry-sponsored study that was half marketing piece

The C is for controlled. I’m pro-patient centred, choice, and health. I cannot dispute the outcomes being presented. It would be unscientific of me to diminish people’s health improvement bc “industry”

So, to be clear, industry funding is an enormous impediment for outcomes generated by research ypu disagree with, but for virta you "cannot disagree"? An odd position, to be sure

Also re: "The C is for controlled"...so what? You can have highly controlled trials that address pragmatic concerns, and totally uncontrolled trials that have little to do with the real world Pragmatism and control are not two ends of a spectrum

Gid, I’m asking you why you are against Virta. I’ve not made a string of statements against it. Nor for it (unprovoked). There’s just no scientific basis for your critique - I’m asking for your clarification (albeit clumsily) why you are against Virta?

Huh? What do you mean no scientific basis - they ran a fairly poorly-controlled trial with numerous flaws. As a pilot study, it'd be fine, but they are treating it as if it were a perfect RCT which is problematic
