Medical cannabis arguments are weird because I'm 100% behind legalizing recreational cannabis but that doesn't mean that your shoddy 20-person uncontrolled study means cannabis can treat Alzheimer's

For everyone arguing right now: there are three indications for which medicinal cannabis has decent evidence: 1. childhood epilepsy 2. treatment-resistant chronic pain 3. chemo-related nausea/low appetite

Of these three, 1 has a number of RCTs, but appears to rely on idiosyncratic reactions (doesn't work for everyone). 2 is touch-and-go because cannabis can also increase the experience of pain, and we aren't sure why. 3 is likely effective as far as I know

Other than that, you're shooting in the wind. Might hit something, but no evidence of it as of yet In general, best to think of cannabis as any other drug. It might work for some things, not others, and it has a range of possible nasty side-effects

Are there other crude plants we administer as prescription therapeutics? I can't think of any. Seems like a terrible tx strategy.

There are a few with some evidence for clinical benefit like St John's Wart, but they often come with a myriad of side-effects which is not really surprising

What if it's just a -really- good placebo?

I haven't had a seizure in four years now. Am I supposed to stop & wait until there's a Cochrane Review or something, on a Schedule 1 substance? Or am I now someone who's fallen for hype & woo & been overcharged for a toxic placebo?

Are the current restrictions on cannabis use effecting the clinical trials, the amount of people recruited and patient types ?

Very interesting! Currently using it to treat my dog’s epilepsy, very effective but frustrating that there are no published clinical trials in dogs yet (a good one in progress at UCLA I think). Assume mechanisms similar to child epilepsy. Too much hype though.

i vomit and get diarrhea when i smoke pot or even take cbd oil. I'm allergic to hemp/marijuana, but people act like it's a miracle plant and can only be good.

Isn’t there some good evidence for an extract being used in MS related spasticity now?
