Thing is, if people were arguing that the media was misinterpreting this study, or that people were extrapolating too far based on observational data, I'd happily agree I might even write a blog on it

Well...that's their usual MO. Are they being more vitriolic than usual?

They are just saying some amazing nonsense rather than engaging with the study realistically

Not gibberish: Baseline rate of 17% diabetes in lowest-carb-intake quintile cf to 9% in the highest-carb-intake quintile & other differences at baseline (smoking rates higher, BMI higher in low carb group). Glaring methodological errors; enough to lead one to ignore conclusions.

Yes, I guess so many are so heavily invested in it, and are True Believers, and they have probably been telling their friends and family all about it in glowing terms and have become the 'family expert'. They will look very silly if it is shown to be wrong.

One of the core skills of being a good health crank is the ability to create doubt about a study that argues against your world view. I used to be world class in this one.
