Things that are a disease risk, no matter how high-quality or artisanal: 1. Raw Milk* 2. Ceviche 3. Steak Tartare* 4. Raw Water 5. Most Under/uncooked Meat *yes, EVEN IF THE COW WAS THE MOST EXPENSIVE COW IN THE WORLD

Commercial sushi in the US is basically not. You'll find plenty of outbreaks of HAV or O157:H7 from green onions or cantaloupe or lettuce. But do a lit search on sushi-associated infections in the US.

Risk is extraordinarily small. Same is probably true with other undercooked fish sold commercially in the US - including (I'd bet) ceviche sold in US restaurants.

From my understanding - based on Aus stats - the risk varies but it similarly fairly minor. Still not without risk tho! Raw meat is a muuuuchhh bigger one ofc

Agree! But risk of food borne pathogens is probably higher with raw vegetables than with sushi!

I think it peeves me because people will cheerfully accept that salad could be potentially dodgy but if you tell them there could be issues with their sushi you'll always hear about how fresh and well-sourced the fish is

All I’m saying is look at the data. Absolute risk with vegetables is low. But unlike tuna, your scallions drink cow shit.

Anyone who eats raw fish or meat and claims there is no risk is just being absurd. It’s like people who buy organic cookies and think they’re healthy. USE COMMON SENSE people!

I didn't neutrally say eating any old raw fish. I said specifically commercially-prepared sushi and the equivalent (salmon tar tar, seared or raw tuna, etc). You'll have a very hard time showing a substantial risk of food-borne illness from commercially prepared sushi in the US.
