If you suffer from a cold, you can expect to feel lousy for up to 7 days If you take vitamin C, you might only have to wait a week for it to pass

Our pilot RCT shows that nasal irrigation and gargling reduces duration of illness by 1.9 days (http://www.elvisstudy.com ). Manuscript submitted. Needs confirmation in a larger study.

No of nasal irrigation and gargling with home made hypertonic saline (~3%).

That's interesting. Why would it impact duration of disease?

Because cells use the chloride ions to mount an antiviral effect which works against all viruses we have tested so far. (Again, this manuscript has been submitted and I hope I can share the link sometime soon).

Acid saline is better, but saline alone does have an impact on rhinoviruses. Well. On some.https://academic.oup.com/jid/article/195/8/1137/816520 …

That's true. But the principle is different (i.e. Low ph on Rhino). If you add 50-100 mMol NaCl to culture medium, you will see viral inhibition which works against enteroviruses (we used CVB3), Flu A, RSV, Herpes viruses (HSV, VZV and MHV 68) and COV 229E.

Not much contribution to colds from HHVs? Mostly RVs and CoVs. So the extra boost from acidified saline worthwhile surely? Looked at that for CoVs & in comparison to your solution?

We tested HHV's not for the cold, but to show the mechanism works against DNA+enveloped viruses. With the combination of viruses we have tested, we can confidently say the mech works against DNA/RNA/enveloped/non enveloped viruses which will cover all viruses that cause a cold.

Will do. It's taken a while as people are rightly sceptical and asked us to repeat experiments by different methodologies. Hopefully it's acceptable now. Fingers crossed.
