FACT ONE: There is solid evidence that cutting out all meat - going veg - causes most people to lose weight FACT TWO: There is solid evidence that doing mostly the opposite - going keto - causes most people to lose weight Maybe it's not diet, but the calorie deficit

It turns out the removing entire food groups from your diet often results in weightloss, regardless of which food groups they are (with obvious exceptions)

Assuming that this involves unprocessed food, we are testing out both fact 1and 2 in real time in my family. So which one is better for health promotion and which one has better compliance/ sustainability?

Generally speaking, neither. The best one is the one that works for you. Very few diets are sustainable long term, the trick is to tie it into your life in a sustainable way

It’s simple arithmetic. Calories in << calories out = weight loss. Calorie source irrelevant. I’m an intermittent faster. Six years. Works for me, but I appreciate that everyone needs to find what works for them.

Actually it’s not that simple. The amount of energy expended and efficiency in extracting and utilising the calories IN is very likely NOT the same for everyone.

Are you suggesting someone on SAD would lose weight simply by cutting meat out of their diet?

Nope. I'm saying if you overhaul your entire eating pattern and cut calories, it doesn't matter overly much how you do that

I was vegetarian for a few years and gained weight. Yes I ate more fruits, veggies, and beans. But I filled up on carbs.
