Oooo, ooo! Pick me! I did a whole course on HPV epidemiology! There are >100 strains of HPV. Of these: ~60 cause warts ~10-16 are 'high risk' for cancer ~2 (HPV 16 and 18) are responsible for most (70%) of cervical cancerhttps://twitter.com/DrJenGunter/status/1020094093555249152 …

The most up-to-date vaccine (Gardisil 9) protects against 9 strains of HPV, including several non-cancerous strains that simply cause warts

In fact, the Australian immunization program has been so successful that not only may cervical cancer be ELIMINATED AS A DISEASE here, but anal and other HPV-associated cancer rates are set to drop hugely

Thankfully, with millions immunized and more than a decade of research, I can confidently assure you that these figures are sound

Also, there's no good evidence that vaccinating for HPV increases the risk of teen pregnancy and the like On the other hand, vaccinating young has been demonstrated to be far more effective than waiting until after teens start having sexpic.twitter.com/vP858O8gvd

The main reason is that in an unimmunized population, most people already have HPV, so vaccinating becomes pointless. You have to get people before they start having sex!

That said, if you're just getting back into the dating world after being monogamous for many years, you could potentially benefit from the 9-valent HPV vaccine. Probably have to pay for it yourself, though. cf.https://drjengunter.wordpress.com/2015/05/19/hpv-vaccine-over-age-26-is-it-worth-it/ …

So what about adult clinicians like me who regularly treat p16 HPV + head and neck tumors. We are probably immersed in it. Is there a shot in the dark that Gardasil would be of any benefit? I’ve never found a study about healthcare personnel. (But haven’t looked in a while)
