A thread on what would happen if people decided to commit EXTREMELY SERIOUS CRIMINAL OFFENSES on a VERY EASILY TRACEABLE SYSTEM #myhealthrecord https://twitter.com/jehankanga/status/1018683327295836160 …

It is also trivial to identify such breaches. Indeed, organizations registered with the ADHA are required under the act to monitor their staff to ensure that this doesn't happen, again with very large penalties for lack of compliance
-
In fact, if this were to happen, as per the act, the ENTIRE STRATA COMMITTEE would be guilty of a criminal offence and face jail time

Yes but you should disclose 'secondary' access for research purposes to third parties will be approved in many cases including data being accessed by big pharma-it will be anonymised but big pharma profits roll on

Not sure two years jail is "hefty" ! And how often do max sentences get imposed? Almost never. Penalties after the act are too late if the info already all over the community, etc! Need a system that stops dissemination, not slaps wrists afterwards!
-
Well, firstly, that's fairly subjective. But it also comes with a $130,000 fine. And it's *per offense*. So a single access of a single piece of information, maybe just a slap on the wrist. A few bad accesses of many pieces of info could lead to decades of prison time
