Weigh these concerns against the possibility that one day you're lying unconscious in an emergency department and the doctor having access to your #MyHealthRecord could save your lifehttps://twitter.com/coopesdetat/status/1018693613461520384 …

It's really important, when making a decision about #MyHealthRecord, to appreciate that this is some of, if not the most, sensitive information about you to exist. You have no idea how your circumstances may change in future and the things that may find their way onto this record

As I said earlier today about that argument, it operates on some fairly critical assumptions:https://twitter.com/coopesdetat/status/1018690370454970368 …

This argument is entirely contingent on the premise that a. People use it b. It is a contemporaneous record c. It is a complete record Without B & C, it's actually the opposite of helpful. It's useless, even dangerous #MyHealthRecord https://twitter.com/ama_media/status/1018689321199497216 …

As does your argument, I would suggest. Like: 1. You are very distrustful of the government 2. Without #MyHealthRecord your electronic health data would not otherwise be at risk of misuse

So your argument is... my electronic health data is already at risk so why not let the free market rip, so to speak? Interesting. Leaving aside legitimate, evidence-based concerns regarding government data security, of course

I think my point is that electronic health data is already around throughout the system, at GP/specialist surgeries, hospital records and MBS/PBS records, it's unclear to me that bringing them together into #MyHealthRecord is better or worse for privacy.

This is something I've been thinking about as well. Many/most of the concerns I've heard could be just as easily applied to the current situation with MBS/PBS/hospital records, except there is far less visibility about who's accessing those services

I don't quite follow this logic. To me, it's the equivalent of saying oh well there's already potential data breach problems inbuilt into the system so <shruggie>. Surely that's even more reason to be leery of #MyHealthRecord?

Yes, this. Also, our EMR doesn't work on a non QH computer or login via virtual machine. But the myHR will allow access from the internet, from apps, all of which are potential threats
