This is so true. My niece unfortunately developed colon cancer at 42. Apparently the risk in the under 50s has doubled but when you look the risk is still very low. she is doing fine..3 years clear.

When you say 'meaningless' I would say 'of no practical significance'. And this remains true if the difference in risk is highly statistically significant. (We've had this - or a similar exchange - before.

Yes absolutely. I usually moderate my language differently on twitter, but in a technical sense it is practical significance, not the more ephemeral concept of 'meaning' that I am referring to

Agreed. Relative vs absolute risk. Relative typically looks a lot “scarier.” Relative risk great for assessing public health (population) effects. Often meaningless for individual person.
