What a shameful, disgusting thing to do. Textbook fat shaming, of the lowest kind. I wasn't aware that the low-carb movement was made up of schoolyard bullies

I was bullied for the majority of my childhood and teen years for my weight. To me, this is like a doctor jeering at their COPD patient for having trouble getting up a flight of stairs

What if you'd been raised on a diet that did not cause excessive weight gain? Isn't that what you would have preferred? See, we now know what are the key components of that diet.

As a Dietitian with pre-diabetes, I followed my doctor's recommendations and ate 192-252 g of carbs per day over 3 meals and 2-3 snacks and became T2D. It's not about Dietitians or Doctors. It's about the #Diet. http://www.lchf-rd.com/2018/03/14/a-dietitians-journey-now-on-diet-doctor/ …

As an epidemiologist who had a BMI of 35, I followed my LCHF nutritionist's advice and cut 99% of carbs from my diet. I lost virtually no weight, put it all back on in a month, and then used the Australian Dietary Recommendations to get down to a BMI of 26, where I am now

I salute you Sir, you are probably one in a million. Australian Dietary Recommendations have played a major roll in making Australians one of the most obese nations in the world, about level with the UK and US.

As an epidemiologist you know that there is more than one type of LCHF diet, and not all of them cut carbs to 1% of intake. A well-designed LCHF based on measured anthropometrics, lab work, family history and dietary intake and with oversight is both safe and effective.

Sure. As is a calorie-restrictive diet with similar oversight that does not cut carbs. Evidence is enormously mixed as to which is more effective, but seems to indicate that neither is

Yeh, a bit of an exaggeration. I lost ~2kg, which was roughly within my normal weight variation. I had a lot of difficulty sticking to a low-carb diet, and the second I stopped I gained more weight than I had lost. Hard to convey the specifics in tweets
